You're somewhat experienced with the skills necessary to complete this project, but you haven't mastered all the elements, yet.

cuttable wood name keychain

Use your Cricut® machine to create personal gifts for your friends; then coat your design with resin to strengthen your keychain.

Print Project

Step 1

Start with a new project in Cricut® Design Space™ and click ‘Text’ in the left panel. Type the name for your keychain.
TIP: Click here for the design shown to as a guide.

Step 2

Choose a font for the name. Weld the letters.
TIP: Even if you chose a font that is not cursive, make sure you push the letters close.

Step 3

Use the ‘Offset’ tool to create a border. Adjust to size you like for your design. Contour out any openings in your border.

Step 4

Create a circle for a hanger. Size a circle that is proportionate to your border. Use the offset tool again to make a circle inside. Slice the inner circle out of the outer circle. Delete the sliced inner circle. Move the hanger circle as desired onto your border and weld.
TIP: Use image as a guide.

Step 5

Click ‘Make It’ in the upper right corner of your screen.

Step 6

Use your knife blade + housing to cut your border and name from basswood.
TIP: Use masking tape to help secure the basswood to your strong grip cutting mat.

Step 7

Carefully remove wood from your mat.
TIP: Use a small nail file to smooth any rough edges.

Step 8

Paint the pieces as desired. Let dry.

Step 9

Glue the name to your border. Let dry.
TIP: You may want to lay an object, such as a small book, to help your name adhere to your border.

Step 10

OPTIONAL: To strengthen your keychain, mix a small amount of resin to coat your keychain. Use a silicone brush to coat your keychain and let dry.
TIP: Coat both sides but let one side dry before flipping over and coating the other side.

Step 11

Use a jump ring to attach a large keyring to the hanger.
TIP: To open and close a jump ring, simply grasp the jump ring on both sides with chain nose pliers and twist the ring open, from side-to-side. Never pull the jump ring which can cause distortion.
